Hmmm.
Well, yesterdays post seems to have generated exactly or approximately no buzz, interest or other musings, writings and posts. Come on my loyal reader(s)! I wanted to see what exciting and original thoughts that you would come up with on your own… Alas, you have let me down. For shame.
In other thoughts… I watched the newest episode of Eureka tonight. It is an amusing and often clever show about a town of scientists that are much further ahead scientifically than we are let on to believe in the rest of the world. It featured some meat that was cloned and grown in vats (they were actually clean, bright plexiglass boxes, but you get the idea). The reason I bring this up is because science really has grown meat (proteinatious tissue) in test tubes. My question is this: Will those who are vegetarians because of animal rights issues eat vat grown, cloned, organic meat? No animals are harmed, nor organisms for that matter. It is no more cruel than the harvesting all of the unborn apple tree fetuses that the butchers of the Okanagan continually perpetuate year after year. Will PETA dream up some lame excuse to protest lab-grown meat? I think they will, because in my humble and occassionally correct opinion, they are more about publicity stunts than protecting animals… but I regress. The promise of lab grown protein has been with us since the dawn of science fiction, and I think that it will allow a world where no one goes hungry, and no one is splattered by animal blood as they go into a butcher to buy a big slab of beef.
If they call it Soylent, and a variety called “Green” comes along, then I am going back to good old farm raised and slaughtered chicken…
